Company Profile

Sittingbourne Accountancy Services Ltd is a group of dedicated accountancy staff formed to service the increasing need of small and medium sized enterprises adding value to their businesses by using dedicated teams headed by Qualified Accountants.
Based at the Sittingbourne Research Centre in Kent, the company has been lending its expertise to the growing number of businesses establishing themselves on the site. The experience of the founding Director encompasses a broad range of accountancy functions, but particularly useful is the expertise gained in forming, growing and turning around projects with SME (small / medium enterprise) Scientific companies.

New scientific entrepreneurs often lack the financial and commercial skills critical to building and maintaining the viability of their new enterprises. With SAS Ltd they can access all the skills of a range of qualified and clerical staff without their business employing a number of full time staff. By supplementing their own skills with the commercial and financial energy of a group of "hands on", highly focussed accountants, management will maximise potential that will yield invaluable results.

Background
The team is headed by Norma Higton and has been built around a number of successful projects achieved. Norma came to Kent in 1993 charged with the task of completely restructuring an environmental biotechnology company that had come out of an academic institution. Her group introduced financial planning, and embarked upon commercial awareness training for all its scientific management. Within two years the firm broke even and made a profit for the first time in its trading history.
After its sale Norma went on to join an academic in founding a Biopharm company on the Sittingbourne Research Centre (SRC). ExCyte Ltd was formed with negotiated funds from the DTI, a bank and Business Angels. Whilst the scientific staff tackled the tasks of equipping the company's laboratories, Norma was setting up the financial systems, negotiating the commercial terms of leases, insurance's and contracts with future clients. ExCyte performed within 4% of its original investment plan in its first year of trading and broke even during its second year.

SAS Ltd was formed in May 1998 to repeat this process for the growing numbers of start-ups and early stage companies coming to SRC, with Norma heading the group on a part time basis. Early in 2000 ExCyte was sold to a pharmaceutical Plc so that it had the funds to embark on the research programme needed to secure its own proprietary lines and thus secure its future as a leader in this technology. Norma then joined SAS full time as its Managing Director.

SAS Ltd can offer a full confidential service that is aimed at becoming part of the management team to help businesses through short and long term phases of their development. It seeks to supplement skills of existing managers and help unlock the company's full potential.
